Finally scrapbooking again!

So many of you know me as a scrapbooker – albeit one that hasn’t done much in a while. I’ve finally really found my groove again. Over the past several months I’ve done some creating, but never really finished anything off and was beginning to be a little discouraged by it. That all changed this weekend! I went through the entire pile of layouts that I was sure wasn’t finished and did whatever it took to complete them. Some could be ‘fanicer’ and some are just the way I wanted them… regardless they are now done and ready for album. Here’s the first batch:

Stay tuned for a few more, once my stupid old point-and-shoot camera starts behaving better. My good camera is MIA at the moment, so I’ve reverted by to the old skool cam. Wish me luck getting it to work for the rest of my creations and in finding my good camera!!

So we are going to be entering week 2! Kane just started Grade 1 and is already blasé about it. It’s like old news already! And Sienna is starting preschool. She had her first day which was more of an introduction of the classroom even though she already knows the classroom and teacher a bit. Although it means they are growing up I’m so thankful for the routine again. Here is Sienna at her preschool! She’s such a big girl.

And here is Kane at school for his first day of Grade 1.

Actually one adventure ended – my time at Lovebug Scrapbooking has come to an end. I have been part of the events/fun team over there for a few years and that chapter of my life has come to a close. It will be interesting to see how my scrapbooking changes now that the stress of “having” to be motivational is over. I already feel a huge weight lifting. Anyway, back to my original reason for coming to blog today. I have decided to become a Beaver leader! Scouts Canada is a fabulous organization and since Kane is involved and well, I try to be “that” mom I decided to give it a whirl and help out with whatever I can.

Our first Beavers meeting is on September 20th, but before then is the fun part for me – the planning, the ideas, the projects. YES!!!!! I have a couple great ideas for the first few weeks that was agreed to by the other leaders so I’ll be working on those to make sure it all works out the same for real as it does in my head.

I keep forgetting to get the app on my iPhone updated so I can blog from there. I must do that tonight. Maybe I’ll go throw another load of laundry in and then grab my phone. Ta-ta for now folks.

After supper tonight the kids convinced me that going to the playground for a while was a great idea. So here we are. Such a nice night out, only downfall is the number of people who think that a SCHOOL field and playground is a good spot to let your dog run OFFLEASH and then tell the kids who come to play to watch out for the dog and spout attitude about their playing being interrupted by KIDS. Seriously people it’s a school playground, meant to be a safe zone for kids, safe from 80 lbs dog charging them , safe from stepping in piles of dog poop, safe from the scary barking and safe from being chased by dogs that are offleash and don’t obey their owners who are shouting stop, ‘Come back Fido’

Still it’s a good night, weather is nice and the kids are happy. It’s a good life we live

WOW, what is the word for beyond neglected…

cause whatever word that is, it describes this poor blog. I constantly say I’ll be better at blogging, and the truth is I probably would be, if I could blog from my phone. Wait, have I even checked if I can. Maybe I should do that… right after I finish this post. Now that I’m here I may as well, say hi and make some empty promise about being back soon to post more. yeah, yeah – you have all heard that before!

This time though instead of waiting until some later, never to arrive, time in the future to share a picture of my beautiful crazy offspring, here they are in all their glory.

And don’t kid yourself, that was far from being the first photo, or even the last, but it’s the best one I could muster out of the 34 or so shots I took.

This was the first attempt – what on earth is K doing, seriously? I know the poor kid has allergies, but wow, that ummm, ‘smile’ is outta this world…

Alright, that’s it for now – it’s after midnight… oh and by the way, while I was waiting for the pictures to upload, I checked the iPhone app store. You better believe I can blog from my phone!!! Yippee!!! There is hope, you just may see more of me yet!

Our theme for this month is CHRISTMAS!

Today I want to share my yummy recipe for Butter Tarts. These are my mom’s speciality and she shared the recipe with me a few years ago. My family loves them!! I just finished making 103 of them for our Christmas visitors and some special friends.

LIZ’S BUTTER TARTS

1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup butter
1 cup lightly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup corn syrup
2 eggs (beaten)
1 tsp vanilla
couple drops of lemon juice
tart shells

Boil raisins until edges turn white, drain well. Cream butter and add brown sugar. Beat thoroughly. Add salt, corn syrup, eggs, vanilla and lemon juice. Blend well. Fold in raisins. Fill tart shells 2/3 full. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until filling bubbles and shell edges turn brown.

I’ve been soooo busy!!!

But it’s been great! There is a great event over at www.lovebugscrapbooking.com/forum to check out. We are doing the 12 Days of Christmas event/crop and you’ll get inspiration for 12 projects and 12 challenges. Excellent way to get some of your homemade gifts out of way before the calendar even flips to December!

So to prepare, I’ve been busy creating projects. Which has been great, since that means I’ve got a deadline so I’ve actually been doing all the things I had on my list! Today is the first day, and I posted about a simple frame I made for mom and dad to have in their entryway. Totally simple, but elegant too.

Tomorrow’s project is a noteboard – and OMG, it turned out so amazing! I’m making one for myself, my parents, my inlaws and possibly even a friend or two.

Tonight the kiddos and I are making ornaments for the grandparents… I can’t wait to see how totally cute they turn out. I’ll show you when we get them done.

No Christmas Lights until after November 11th

I recently read a few of my friends on Facebook post not to turn on your Christmas lights until after November 11th so as not to “overpower” the importance of November 11th and Remembrance Day. Wow, who would have ever thought that it would be normal to even put Christmas light up and on by the 11th of November. A full 6 weeks before Christmas. Well, no worries about that at Casa del Roberts… since we will certainly not be indulging in any Christmas decoration lit or otherwise until after December 1st.

This whole discussion and campaign makes me wonder though – how many of you normally go directly into Christmas from Halloween… am I in the minority of people who want until the calendar has at least reached December? If anyone is out there reading, comment and tell me when you go about decking your abode and life for Christmas festivities.

And YES I did indeed make a point of calling it CHRISTMAS throughout this entire post. No Happy Holidays or Season’s Greetings from here… we celebrate CHRISTmas, not any other ambiguous holiday that doesn’t relate to the birth of Christ. Christ is the reason for the season, no need to disrepect with by ignoring the fact.

And I mean no disrespect to any other religion that doesn’t celebrate Christmas; I simply don’t celebrate your holidays and if you don’t agree with mine, don’t celebrate, but don’t try to silence me or censor my right to religion.

Wow, on a bit of a rant lately eh? Guess that solves the mystery as to why no one reads the blog anymore.
